Temple Lift vs Brow Lift: Which One Do You Need?

Patients often ask whether they need a temple lift or a full brow lift. The two procedures address different parts of the upper face, and choosing the right one depends on where the sagging actually is.

A temple lift (temporal or lateral brow lift) targets only the outer third of the eyebrow and the temple area. The incisions are hidden in the hairline above the temples, the operation usually takes under an hour, and downtime is short. It is the right choice when the tail of the eyebrow has dropped, the outer eyelid looks heavy or "tired", and the middle of the forehead is still smooth.

A full brow lift (forehead lift) raises the entire eyebrow and treats horizontal forehead lines and frown lines between the brows. It involves longer incisions or several endoscopic ports across the scalp, more swelling, and a longer recovery. It is the right choice when the whole brow sits low, the forehead is heavily lined, or upper-eyelid vision is affected.

During your consultation, the surgeon assesses brow position against the bony rim above the eye, the amount of excess upper-eyelid skin, and forehead muscle activity. Many patients who assume they need a brow lift are in fact good candidates for the less invasive temple lift.
