A facelift (rhytidectomy) lifts the deeper tissues of the lower face and neck and removes loose skin. It is designed to soften jowls, sharpen the jawline and smooth the neck, while you still look like yourself.

Most facelifts at Medicape use the SMAS technique. The surgeon lifts the supportive layer beneath the skin (the SMAS) and repositions it, rather than simply pulling the skin tight. In selected patients, a deep plane approach is used, which repositions the tissues at a deeper level.
Because the deeper layers carry the lift, the skin is not under tension. This is what helps the result look natural rather than "pulled".
The incisions follow the natural creases in front of and behind the ear and run into the hairline. When the neck is treated as well, a small incision is placed under the chin.
Which technique is right for you depends on your anatomy, skin quality and goals. Your surgeon will explain their recommendation in your consultation.
A facelift treats the lower face and neck. The upper face, the eyes and the brows age too, and many patients choose to treat them in the same operation, with one anaesthetic and one recovery.
Combining procedures makes the operation longer and may add a day or two to your stay. Your surgeon will recommend only what your face needs.

It is normal for the skin in front of the ears and on the cheeks to feel numb for a few weeks to months. Sensation returns gradually.

How long do I need to stay in Turkey?
About 10 days. Your stitches are removed around day 7–8, and your surgeon examines you before you're cleared to fly.
Will I have visible scars?
The incisions follow the natural creases around the ear and run into the hairline, so they are usually hard to see once healed. They are pink for the first few months and then fade.
Can I have my eyelids or brows done at the same time?
Yes, in suitable patients. Eyelid surgery or a temple lift is often combined with a facelift in the same operation, so you have one recovery instead of two.
Does a facelift also treat the neck?
Yes. The lower face and the neck are usually treated together, because loose skin on the jaw and neck are connected.
What's the difference between a facelift and a mini facelift?
A mini facelift uses shorter incisions and suits early changes in the lower face. A full facelift treats more advanced sagging of the face and neck. Your surgeon will recommend the right option after seeing your photos. Read more about the mini facelift
Do I need to stop smoking?
Yes. Smoking reduces blood supply to the skin and significantly increases the risk of wound-healing problems. You'll be asked to stop for several weeks before and after surgery.
When can I colour my hair or wear make-up?
Make-up can usually be worn once the stitches are out. Hair colouring should wait until the incisions have fully healed, usually several weeks. Your surgeon will confirm your dates.
Can someone come with me?
Yes, and we recommend it. Your companion can stay with you at the hotel.
