Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) in Turkey

Upper eyelid surgery: removes excess skin, and sometimes a little fat, that makes the upper lids look heavy or hooded.

Lower eyelid surgery: treats bags under the eyes. Where possible, fat is repositioned rather than removed, to avoid a hollow look.

Upper and lower together: both are treated in one operation.

Who it suits: people with a single eyelid or an uneven, faint crease, who want a defined crease without daily tape or glue.

How it's done: the crease is created through a small incision in the planned crease line, or in suitable patients with a less invasive suture technique. Your surgeon will explain which method suits your eyelids.

Recovery: the crease looks higher and more swollen at first. It softens over the following weeks, and the final shape is usually seen after a few months.

Excess eyelid skin or puffiness: eyelid surgery is the right treatment.

A dropped outer brow: pushes skin down onto the eyelid. A temple lift, alone or with eyelid surgery, gives a better result.

A drooping eyelid margin (ptosis): when the muscle that lifts the eyelid is weak, the edge of the lid sits too low. This needs a different operation and is assessed separately.

Dark circles from pigment or hollowness: surgery may not help, and another treatment may suit you better.

Anaesthesia: local anaesthetic with sedation, or general anaesthetic, depending on the extent of surgery.

Duration: about 45 minutes for the upper lids, up to 2 hours for upper and lower together.

Upper eyelid incision: in the natural crease of the eyelid, where it is hidden when your eyes are open.

Lower eyelid incision: either just below the lash line or on the inside of the eyelid, leaving no visible scar.

A temple lift, when the outer brow has dropped as well as the eyelid skin.

A facelift or mini facelift, for a balanced result across the whole face, with one anaesthetic and one recovery.

Day 1 – Arrival: private transfer from the airport to your hotel.

Day 2 – Tests and surgery: pre-operative tests, final consultation, then surgery. After upper eyelid surgery, most patients return to the hotel the same day; after lower or combined surgery, you may stay one night in hospital.

Days 3–5 – Hotel recovery: cold compresses, rest with your head elevated. Your coordinator checks in with you every day.

Days 5–6 – Stitch removal: your surgeon checks your healing and removes the stitches.

Day 7 – Departure: final examination, written discharge summary in English, private transfer to the airport.

Back home: online follow-up with your surgeon after one month.

Days 1–3: swelling, bruising and a feeling of tightness. Your eyes may water or feel dry.

Week 1: stitches out; bruising fading. Sunglasses help when you travel home.

Weeks 2–3: most people return to work and social life. Make-up can usually be worn again.

Months 2–3: remaining swelling settles and the scars continue to fade.

Dry or irritated eyes: common in the first weeks and usually treated with eye drops.

Difficulty closing the eyes fully: usually temporary while swelling settles.

Lower eyelid pulled down (ectropion): uncommon, more likely after lower eyelid surgery. Careful technique reduces the risk.

Asymmetry or visible scarring: usually minor and improves with time.

Bleeding behind the eye: rare but serious, as it can affect vision. It needs urgent treatment, which is one of the reasons you are monitored after surgery.

You leave with a written discharge summary in English, which you can share with your GP or family doctor.

You keep WhatsApp access to your coordinator and can send photos at any time.

Your surgeon reviews your progress in an online follow-up after one month.
