Hollywood Smile Design in Turkey

A Hollywood smile is not a single product. It is a plan for each tooth that shows when you smile: some may only need whitening, some a thin porcelain veneer, and some – usually teeth with large fillings or root canal treatment – a crown. At Medicape Health in Adana, your plan is drawn up by a specialist in Prosthodontics, and you see it, tooth by tooth, before anything is prepared.

What a Hollywood smile can include

Teeth whitening – for teeth that are healthy and well shaped but darker than you would like. For some patients this is the whole treatment.

Laminate or E-max veneers – thin porcelain shells bonded to the front of the tooth. They need the least preparation and suit teeth that are largely healthy. See Laminate Veneers and E-max.

Zirconium or E-max crowns – caps that cover the whole tooth. They are used where a tooth is already weakened by large fillings, root canal treatment, fractures or deep discolouration. See Zirconium Crowns.

Gum contouring – reshaping the gum line where it is uneven or shows too much when you smile.

Treatment of underlying problems – decay, old leaking fillings and gum inflammation are treated first. Porcelain placed on an unhealthy base will not last.

Veneers or crowns: why it matters

This is the most important decision in your plan, so we explain it plainly.

We recommend a crown only where the tooth needs one. If your teeth are healthy and you mainly want a whiter colour, we will tell you that whitening may be enough, even if that means a smaller treatment.

Veneer Crown
How much tooth is removed A thin layer from the front surface, sometimes very little Tooth is reduced on all sides
Best for Healthy teeth that need a change of colour, shape or small gaps Teeth weakened by large fillings, root canal treatment or fracture
Can it be undone? No – the tooth will always need a covering No – the tooth will always need a crown

How many teeth?

There is no standard number. We look at which teeth show when you smile and talk naturally, the condition of each one and the result you want. For many people this is the upper front teeth; others need fewer, and some need the lower teeth as well. Your plan lists every tooth and what is proposed for it, so you can ask about any of them before you agree.

Choosing your shade

Very white teeth are the most common regret we hear about. We choose the shade with you in daylight, against your skin tone, the whites of your eyes and any teeth that will not be covered. Porcelain cannot be whitened later, so if you want your natural teeth lighter, we whiten them first and match the porcelain to the new shade.

Is it right for you?

A Hollywood smile may suit you if you have:

discoloured teeth that do not respond to whitening

chipped, worn or uneven teeth

small gaps between teeth

old crowns or fillings that no longer match

teeth that are slightly out of line (more crowded teeth may be better treated with orthodontics first)

It may not be the right choice, or may need to wait, if you have untreated gum disease, active decay, very short or heavily worn teeth from grinding, or if you are under 18.

Before you travel

Send us:

a panoramic X-ray taken in the last six months (your local dentist can take one)

clear photos of your smile from the front and both sides, and with your lips relaxed

a short note on what you would like to change and any dental treatment you have had

Your dentist reviews these and we send you a written plan and quote. If something is unclear from the X-ray, we will tell you before you book flights.

Your treatment, day by day

Day 1 – Examination and design. Full examination, X-ray or 3D scan if needed, photos and a digital smile design. Where it helps, we place a mock-up – a temporary version of your new smile – over your own teeth so you can see the shapes and length in the mirror. Nothing is prepared until you have seen and agreed your plan.

Day 2 – Preparation. Under local anaesthetic, teeth are prepared and digital or conventional impressions taken. You leave with temporary teeth.

Days 3–5 – Laboratory. Your veneers or crowns are made. You may have a try-in to check shape and shade before they are finished.

Day 5–7 – Fitting. The final restorations are bonded, your bite is checked and adjusted, and you receive your aftercare instructions, a written record of the materials used and, if you grind your teeth, a night guard.

If you need gum treatment, root canal treatment or extractions first, your stay may be longer or you may need two visits. We tell you this in your plan.

Your dentist

Your treatment is planned and carried out by a specialist in Prosthodontics – the dental speciality focused on crowns, veneers, bridges and implant restorations. You can find your dentist’s profile, qualifications and experience on the Our Doctors page.

What is included

Examination, X-rays and digital smile design

Mock-up where appropriate

Treatment as set out in your written plan

Temporary teeth during your stay

Airport and clinic transfers

Hotel accommodation for the agreed number of nights

An English-speaking patient coordinator

Aftercare by WhatsApp after you return home

Your quote lists exactly which of these apply to you.

How it feels afterwards

Most people find tooth preparation comfortable under local anaesthetic. Afterwards:

Teeth may be sensitive to hot and cold for a few days to a couple of weeks.

Gums around crowns can be tender for several days.

Your new teeth may feel slightly large or different when you speak at first. This usually settles within one to two weeks.

If your bite feels high when you get home, tell us: a small adjustment by any dentist usually solves it.

Risks and limitations

Sensitivity – usually temporary; occasionally longer.

Nerve problems – a prepared tooth, particularly one prepared for a crown, may later need root canal treatment.

Chipping or debonding – porcelain is strong but not unbreakable. Grinding, biting hard objects and contact sports increase the risk.

Gum changes – gums can recede over the years, showing the edge of a crown or veneer.

Replacement – veneers and crowns do not last forever. Most last many years with good care, but you should expect to replace them at some point, and to budget for that.

Irreversibility – prepared teeth will always need a covering.

Once you’re back home

Your coordinator stays in touch by WhatsApp. Send photos at one week and one month, or any time something does not feel right.

See your own dentist and hygienist every six months, as you would for natural teeth. Tell them you have porcelain veneers or crowns.

Wear your night guard every night if you were given one.

If a veneer or crown chips, comes loose or hurts, contact us first. We will advise whether it can be managed by a local dentist or needs to be seen in Adana.

Your written plan sets out the guarantee terms for your restorations: what is covered, for how long, and what you need to do to keep it valid.

Alongside other treatments

Teeth whitening before veneers, to set a lighter base for your natural teeth.

Masseter Botox if you clench or grind, to reduce the load on new porcelain. See Masseter Botox.

Rhinoplasty or facial procedures – some patients combine their dental visit with a procedure by our surgical team. Dental work is usually done first or on separate days; your coordinator plans the timing.

What is “Turkey teeth”, and how is this different?

The phrase is used in the UK for treatment where many healthy teeth were heavily cut down for crowns, often with a very white shade and little explanation. Our approach is the opposite: veneers where possible, crowns only where a tooth needs one, a shade chosen to suit you, and a written plan for every tooth before treatment starts.

Will my teeth be filed down?

For veneers, a thin layer is removed from the front of the tooth; sometimes very little. For crowns, the tooth is reduced on all sides. Your plan states which teeth will have which treatment.

Can I have the treatment in one trip?

Usually yes, in 5–7 days, if your teeth and gums are healthy. If you need root canal or gum treatment first, we may recommend two visits.

Does it hurt?

Preparation is done under local anaesthetic. Some sensitivity for a few days afterwards is common.

How long will my veneers or crowns last?

Most last many years with good care, regular check-ups and a night guard if you grind. They will need replacing at some point; how soon depends on your habits, bite and gum health.

Can I choose a very white shade?

Yes, it is your smile. We will show you how different shades look against your face so the choice is an informed one.

What happens if something goes wrong when I’m home?

Contact your coordinator on WhatsApp with photos. We will advise you and, where needed, arrange for you to be seen. Your guarantee terms are set out in your written plan.

Can my own dentist look after my veneers?

Yes. Any dentist can check and clean them. We give you a written record of the materials used.

Can I fly straight after treatment?

Yes. Dental treatment does not affect flying.
