You may have read news reports about serious complications, and even deaths, after BBL surgery, including in Turkey. Those reports are real, and we think you should know about the risk before anything else.
The most serious risk of a BBL is fat embolism: fat entering the large blood vessels in the buttock muscle and travelling to the lungs. This is mainly linked to fat being injected into or under the muscle. Safety guidance in plastic surgery today is clear: fat should be placed only in the layer above the muscle, under the skin.
This is how we approach every BBL at Medicape:
A BBL reshapes the buttocks using your own fat. In one operation, fat is removed by liposuction from areas such as the abdomen, flanks, lower back or thighs. It is then purified and carefully injected to give the buttocks more shape and projection.
Because fat is taken from the waist and lower back, the change in your overall shape often comes as much from the liposuction as from the buttocks themselves.
A BBL may suit you if:
A BBL is usually not suitable if you are very slim with little fat to transfer, have a clotting disorder or uncontrolled medical condition, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Not all of the transferred fat survives. Part of it is naturally absorbed by the body in the first months. How much remains differs from person to person. The final shape is usually visible after about six months, and the fat that has settled by then behaves like the rest of your body fat.
For about three weeks, you should avoid sitting directly on your buttocks, because pressure can reduce blood supply to the new fat. You'll lie on your front or side, and use a special BBL pillow when you need to sit.
A flight home means sitting for hours, which puts pressure on the buttocks and increases the risk of blood clots. Before you fly:

Sport, cycling and anything that puts pressure on the buttocks usually wait for about six to eight weeks.

Is a BBL safe?
A BBL carries more serious risk than most cosmetic operations. Placing fat only above the muscle, with the operation done by a specialist surgeon in a hospital, is the most important way to reduce that risk. We'll talk through the risks with you honestly before you decide.
How long do I need to stay in Turkey?
About 10 days, so your surgeon can check your recovery and clear you to fly safely.
When can I sit normally?
Usually after about three weeks. Until then, use a BBL pillow or lie on your front or side.
Will I lose the result if I lose weight?
The transferred fat behaves like your own fat. Significant weight loss can reduce the volume, so a stable weight helps you keep your result.
Can I have a bigger result in one operation?
We plan the amount of fat within safe limits. If you'd like more volume, a second session after several months is safer than taking risks in one operation.
Can someone come with me?
Yes, and we strongly recommend it for a BBL. Your companion can stay with you at the hotel.
