Revision rhinoplasty is surgery to correct a nose that has already been operated on. It may be needed because of how the nose looks, how it breathes, or both.
It’s more complex than a first rhinoplasty. After surgery, the nose has scar tissue, the skin can be thinner or stiffer, and some of the cartilage that supports the nose may have been removed. Rebuilding that support is often the key to a good result.
We usually recommend waiting at least 12 months after your last nose surgery. The nose keeps changing as swelling settles, and operating too early can make the result less predictable.
If you’re within that time and worried, send us your photos anyway. Your surgeon can look at them and tell you whether waiting is likely to help. A serious breathing problem may sometimes be treated sooner.

If needed, your surgeon may ask for a CT scan of your nose before surgery.

Recovery after revision usually takes a little longer than after a first rhinoplasty.

Once healed, the result is long-lasting. Your nose will still age with the rest of your face, and an injury can change it. Because healing takes longer after revision, it’s best to judge the result only after 12 to 18 months.
How long should I wait after my first rhinoplasty?
Usually at least 12 months, so swelling has settled and the result can be judged properly. A serious breathing problem may sometimes be treated earlier.
My first surgery was somewhere else. Can you still help?
Yes. Many revision patients had their first surgery at another clinic or in another country. Your operation notes, if you can get them, help your surgeon plan.
Will you need cartilage from my ear or rib?
Only if there isn’t enough cartilage left in your septum. Your surgeon will tell you in your consultation which source is likely to be needed.
Can my breathing be improved?
Often, yes. Breathing problems after rhinoplasty are commonly caused by a narrowed airway or a bent septum, which can be treated during revision.
Will this be my last surgery?
The aim is that it is. But revision is more complex than a first rhinoplasty, and a small further correction is sometimes needed.
When can I fly home?
Usually on day 7, after your splint is removed and your surgeon has checked your nose.
